The Nebraska football team worked out for two hours and five minutes and Memorial Stadium Wednesday in preparation for Saturday’s 11 a.m. game against Pittsburgh.

Nebraska Head Coach Bill Callahan was pleased with the team’s workout.

“We had our second straight good practice today.  We’re excited and anxious to go to Pittsburgh,” Callahan said.

One of the bright spots in practice the past couple days is the return of wide receiver Willie Amos to workouts.

“He’s practiced both days (Tuesday and Wednesday), and from all indications, he’s ready to go.  His speed and ability to work the deep routes and become a threat for us is so crucial,” Callahan said.

The Huskers are preparing to combat two opposing factors to their efforts.  The first is the crowd noise generated by the road crowd, especially as Nebraska tries to signal in its offensive plays.  However, Callahan isn’t concerned about that becoming a factor.

“We have a good system to signal in plays.  We had crowd noise piped into practice today so that we get ready for those situations,” Callahan said.

The second factor is the weather.  With rain expected for the Pittsburgh area on Saturday, the Huskers will have to contend with the weather along with unfamiliar surroundings. 

“We’ve worked with some wet ball drills, working with center-quarterback exchange,” Callahan said. 

Callahan said it takes a different approach to win on the road.

“Any time you get prepared to go on the road, you have to a mentality to prepare for the contingencies you face when you play on the road, and I think we’re very well prepared in that respect,” Callahan said.

The Huskers will work out Thursday before leaving on Friday for Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh.
