Lincoln -- Several former Husker Blackshirt standouts stepped to the forefront during National Footbal League action over the weekend.
In Houston, Jay Foreman made seven tackles, including four solo stops, as the Houston Texans won their franchise-record second game in a row with a 30-17 win over the Oakland Raiders. Offensive guard Zach Wiegert helped Houston utility back Jonathan Wells run for 105 yards, while Kris Brown was 3-4 (46,41,44) on field goals and hit three extra points. Jammal Lord remained on the practice squad for the game and was inactive.
In the NFC South, a pair of former Blackshirts on each team stood out as the Atlanta Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers 27-10. Mike Rucker had six solo tackles for the Panthers, while Mike Minter added three tackles. Rookie linebacker Demorrio Williams had his best game as a Falcon recording three solo tackles, while special teams veteran Eric Johnson recorded one tackle. The Falcons are now 4-0 under new head coach Jim Mora Jr. and tied for the best record in the NFL.
In Buffalo, Russ Hochstein and the New England Patriots defeated Chris Kelsay and the Buffalo Bills 31-17. Hochstein paved the way as running back Cory Dillon recorded 79 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. In a reserve role, Kelsay was credited with two defensive stops. Follow Hochstein and the Patriots as they try to break the NFL record of 18 straight victories against the MIami Dolphins this upcoming weekend.
The week's NFL action concluded with Kansas City, led by former Huskers Eric Warfield and Will Shields, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 27-24 on Monday night.
