Senior linebacker Bo Ruud has been named to watch lists for the Lott Trophy and the Lombardi Award.

Nebraska went through a 2 ½ hour practice inside the Hawks Championship Center on Friday afternoon as the Huskers continued to work through their third week of spring football practice.

Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said the Huskers had a good practice in half pads on Friday, as the Huskers prepare for a Saturday practice that will include a significant amount of scrimmage work in the second half of the workout.

“We took a smart approach to practice today,” Watson said. “We were in shoulder pads and shorts because we are getting ready to scrimmage tomorrow.”

Watson continues to see strong play and improvement from the quarterback position as spring football progresses.

“We have put a lot of pressure on our quarterbacks and they have done an excellent job,” Watson said. “I’m really proud of the work they have all put into it.”

Saturday’s practice will mark the Huskers’ 11th of 15 during the 2007 spring session. Nebraska will complete spring drills next week with afternoon workouts on Monday and Wednesday, a Thursday morning practice, followed by next Saturday’s Red-White Spring Game.

Ruud Named to Lott Trophy Watch List

Nebraska senior linebacker Bo Ruud is among 42 top defensive players in the nation named to the 2007 Lott Trophy Watch List, as announced this week.

The award is named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, and is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.  Now in its fourth year, The Lott Trophy is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player.

Ruud moved to SAM linebacker this spring after starting the past two seasons at WILL linebacker for the Husker Blackshirt defense. Ruud was a first-team All-Big 12 pick last season when he made 65 tackles, including seven for losses.

Ruud was named to the watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award earlier this spring.
