Crick Garners Multiple Honors for Performance

Nebraska sophomore defensive tackle Jared Crick has been honored on both the conference and national levels for his record-setting performance in Saturday's victory over Baylor.

Crick was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday, and on Monday was honored as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. Crick also received a "helmet sticker" from ESPN's College Football Final on Saturday night.

The 6-6, 285-pound Crick dominated from start to finish in the Huskers' 20-10 victory. Crick set a Nebraska record with five sacks, totaling 24 yards in losses. The sack total broke the Nebraska record of four sacks, accomplished five times previously in school history. Crick's five sacks are the most by any player in the nation this season.

Crick also racked up seven tackles for loss, tying the Nebraska school originally set by All-American Jim Skow against Missouri in 1985. Crick finished the game with 13 total tackles, including 10 solo stops, the most total tackles by a Nebraska defensive lineman since 2002. The Cozad, Neb., native added a fumble recovery and a pass breakup as the Blackshirt defense held the Bear offense out of the end zone.

In his first season as a starter, Crick is tied with fellow defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh for the team lead with 49 total tackles. Crick leads the team with 8.5 sacks and his 13 tackles for loss are also tied for the team lead.

Crick's Big 12 honor is the second time a Husker has been honored as player of the week, after Suh was honored for his performance against Missouri. It also marks the third time this season a Nebraska defender has earned national defensive player-of-the-week honors. Suh was the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week following his performance at Missouri and has twice been named the Lott Trophy Impact Player of the Week (Missouri, Iowa State).
