Lincoln – Nick Sullivan homered and drove in a career-high five runs, as No. 9 Nebraska completed a sweep of Texas Tech with a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field

Sullivan’s three-run homer in the sixth helped Nebraska overcome a 3-2 deficit, as he sent his third homer of the year over the wall in dead center off of Texas Tech starter Chad Bettis, giving the Huskers the lead for good.

On the weekend, Sullivan went 5-for-12 with two homers and eight RBIs, as the Huskers (24-4-1, 10-1-1 Big 12) picked up their second Big 12 sweep of the season and remained in first place in the Big 12 race.

Sullivan, who matched his career best with three RBIs in Saturday’s win, began NU’s offensive day with a two-run double in the bottom of the first, and has had six multi-RBI efforts in his last 12 games.

Anderson said that Sullivan provided a much-needed spark for the Huskers, who have now won 18 of 20 games at Hawks Field and are off to their best Big 12 start since the league’s inception.

"It was Nick Sullivan day at the ballpark," Anderson said. "He had a great day. I realized I made a huge mistake yesterday. I said each day it’s somebody different contributing, but that’s two days in a row for Nick. I’m very happy for him. He’s worked really hard at what he’s doing to get himself going. We needed something like that today."

While Sullivan, who totaled three of the Huskers’ five hits on the day, powered the offense, Nebraska received a solid performance from starter Aaron Pribanic, while three relievers combined for three innings of two-hit ball to preserve the win

Pribanic (4-1) allowed three runs over six innings while striking out six for his fourth win of the season before turning the game over to the bullpen. In the seventh, Mike Nesseth got NU out of a two-on, two-out jam before Dan Jennings fanned a pair in the ninth for his third save.

The Huskers got out of the gate quickly against Red Raider starter Bettis, taking advantage of a pair of walks to plate two early runs. With one on, Mitch Abeita drew a two-out walk to keep the inning alive before Sullivan ripped the next pitch into the gap in right center, clearing the bases and giving NU a 2-0 lead.

Texas Tech (16-15, 4-8 Big 12) used the long ball to get back in the game, tying the game at two after solo homers from Doug Thennis in the third and Jason Seefeld in the fourth.

The Red Raiders took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, as Seefeld drew a one-out walk and scored from first on Jeremy Mayo’s double into the corner in right.

The Huskers came right back in the bottom of the sixth, as a walk to Jake Opitz and an Abeita single put runners on first and second for Sullivan. The Husker left fielder sent the first pitch he saw over the fence for a three-run homer, putting the Huskers ahead to stay.
