Lincoln – University of Nebraska baseball coach Mike Anderson announced the addition of Justin Seely to the Husker baseball staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

A two-year starter and a member of the Huskers’ 2001 and 2002 College World Series team, Seely has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Paris (Texas) Junior College for Head Coach Deron Clark. 

In his role with the Husker program, Seely will work primarily with the outfielders, assist with the hitters and help in on-campus recruiting. According to Anderson, Seely’s combination of playing and coaching experience made him an ideal candidate for the position. 

“We are very excited to welcome Justin back to the Husker program,” Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson said. “He brings the same passion to the coaching profession as he had as a player in our program. It is always good to have one of our former players come back to Nebraska and be able to give back and work with our current players.”

At Paris JC, he worked with the position players, helped run the team’s offense and served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. In 2005, Paris Junior College had 11 players sign National Letters-of-Intent, including current NU junior Andrew Brown, who was also selected as the MVP of the Texas Collegiate League this summer.

In addition to his experience in the junior college ranks, Seely also coached with the Parkville (Mo.) Sluggers in 2003, where he worked with current Nebraska Assistant Coach Dave Bingham.  For the last two summers, Seely has coached the 17 and 18-year-old teams for the Dallas Mustangs, one of the top Connie Mack programs in the country.

Seely served as the Huskers’ starting outfielder and designated hitter during his two years in the program. He made 87 starts, hitting .355 with 11 homers and 65 RBIs at NU. His best season came in 2002, where he hit .320 with 19 doubles, seven homers and 37 RBIs in helping the Huskers return to the College World Series. Seely was best known for his grand slam in the decisive third game of the Super Regional against Richmond, a blast that sealed NU’s second straight trip to Omaha.

A native of Nacogdoches, Texas, Seely began his collegiate career at Northeast Texas Community College, where he was a two-year starter. He received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Nebraska in 2003.
