Fayetteville, Ark. – Nebraska used another big inning to pull out a victory, scoring six runs in the top of the ninth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit and defeat Arkansas, 7-4, Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskers (12-6-1) were down to their final two outs before rallying off the Arkansas bullpen, using a pair of walks and five straight hits to plate six runs and snap a two-game losing streak.

One-out walks to Ben Kline and pinch hitter Cody Asche put the tying run on base for the Huskers before Cory Burleson’s infield single changed the whole game around. Burleson hit a chopper to first which Arkansas first baseman Andy Wilkins backhanded, but threw wildly to first, allowing Kline to score. Asche then came around to score the tying run, knocking the ball away from Razorback catcher Robert Cisterna to make it a 3-3 game. NU continued the assult, as RBI singles from DJ Belfonte and Kyle Bubak made it a 5-3 lead before Adam Bailey’s ninth homer of the year, a blast to right center, pushed the Husker lead to four runs.

Bailey went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Bubak had two hits, as Nebraska picked up its seventh come-from-behind victory. Mike Nesseth (3-1) earned the win in relief, fanning four over two innings as the right-hander struck out the final three Arkansas hitters he faced after Wilkins’ second homer to open the ninth cut the Husker lead to 7-4.

Zack Cox (2-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits without retiring a hitter.

Nebraska got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on Ben Kline’s sacrifice fly. Adam Bailey singled to open the inning before a grounder and a single by Nick Sullivan put runner on the corners. Kline then hit a sinking liner to right that Chase Leavitt caught, allowing Bailey to race home for the first run.

Nebraska starter Matt Freeman faced the minimum over the first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. Leavitt led off the inning with a walk before coming home three batters later on Andy Wilkins’ seventh homer of the year, a two-run shot to left center, to put the Hogs up 2-1.

Freeman (0-1) pitched well in a no-decision, allowing two runs on a pair of hits over four innings, as the Husker pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts and one walk, as Nate Kerkhoff, Eric Rose and Sean Yost kept the Huskers in the game until the Huskers rallied.

Cox made it a 3-1 Razorback lead in the fifth, as he belted a solo homer into the Nebraska bullpen in right. Boomer Collins made a gallant stab at the ball as he climbed the fence, but the ball glanced off his glove.

The Huskers return to action on Friday when the Huskers host No. 11 Oklahoma State in a three-game series at Hawks Field. Friday’s first pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. and the game will be carried on the Husker Sports Network and on Huskers.com
