2004-05 Season Outlook

   Sophomore Chad Sportelli will be a contender to fill the shoes of 125-pound national champion Jason Powell.


Career Notes

   2004-Sportelli earned a record of 10-3 primarily as Matt Keller’s back-up at 133 pounds.  Sportelli was 2-0 in duals.  He defeated No. 19 Heath McKim of Air Force 6-4.  Sportelli took third at the Great Plains Open and fourth at the UNO Open.

   2003-Sportelli finished the season 13-9 wrestling in open tournaments. Sportelli earned a first-place finish at the Worthington Open and added a second-place showing at the Nebraska-Kearney Open.

   Before Nebraska-A three-year letterwinner for Coach Steve Powell, Sportelli was a member of two Pennsylvania state championship teams. In his senior season, the Easton wrestling team finished second in the nation. Sportelli was a two-time district champion, a three-time regional champion and added three top-five finishes at the state championships. Sportelli also lettered three times in golf.

   Personal-The son of Sal and Lee Sportelli and Barry and Denise Rutt, Chad was born on Aug. 25, 1983.  Chad has two brothers Cory, 15 and Tyler Rutt, 13 and a sister, Sydney Sportelli, 15. He is a business management major. Sportelli is from the same high school that produced four-time All-American and Big 12 Champion Bryan Snyder.
