Brandon Buckman’s (Parker, Colo.) RBI single in the fourth inning broke a scoreless tie, as the Red team clinched the Red/White series title with a 2-0 win Friday afternoon at Hawks Field.

Buckman’s single to center scored Alex Gordon (Lincoln, Neb.) with the go-ahead run, as the Reds scored twice in the fourth and won the series, 3-1.

Gordon, who reached on both of his plate appearances, led off the inning with a wind-blown double to left before Buckman singled him home one batter later. The Reds eventually loaded the bases before a throwing error by reliever Dustin Timm plated Buckman from third.

The two runs would be more than enough for freshman Luke Wertz (Parker, Colo.), who tossed a complete-game (five innings) two-hitter for the Red team’s second shutout in as many days. The 6-1, 170-pounder allowed two singles and walked three, but was helped by a pair of double plays.

The Whites had their best chance in the bottom of the fourth, as a lead-off single by Trey Adams (Coppell, Texas) and a one-out walk to Brandon Fusilier (Coppell, Texas) put runners on first and second. After a balk moved both runners into scoring position, Wertz got Curtis Ledbetter to fly out to shallow center before Jake Opitz grounded out to end the threat.

Charlie Shirek pitched well in defeat for the White squad, allowing four hits in three-plus innings of work.

Whites Win Series Finale, 10-1
While the Red team clinched the series with a 2-0 win earlier Friday, the White squad extracted a little revenge with a 10-1 victory in the last game of the fall drills.

Freshman left-hander Ryan Hines (Omaha, Neb.) earned the win, allowing one hit – Joe McMahon’s (Central City, Neb.) solo homer in the fourth - and striking out three in a game that was called after four innings.

The Coppell, Texas, duo of Trey Adams and Brandon Fusilier powered the White attack, going a combined 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Adams went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, while Fusilier paced a 12-hit attack by going 2-for-2 with a two-run double.

Freshmen Jake Opitz (Littleton, Colo.), Ryan Bohanan (Goodard, Kan.) and Deric Manrique (Sioux City, Iowa) all had two hits apiece for the Whites, as Red starter Tim Radmacher was touched up for five runs on six hits in two innings of work.
