2016: Colton Howell entered 2016 with 47 career appearances at Nebraska, all out of the bullpen • Transitioned to a starter in 2016, but was limited to six appearance, including four starts, because of an abdominal injury • Started the season opener at College of Charleston on Feb. 19 • Allowed just one hit over 5.0 shutout innings and struck out four • Tossed a career-high 6.0 innings against Loyola Marymount on March 11 • Was limited to a pair of bullpen appearances during Big Ten play • Went undrafted, but signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals organization.

2015: Following the 2015 season Howell was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 27th round of the MLB Draft, but he elected to return to Nebraska for his senior season • Worked as NU’s setup man in 2015 and produced 31 strikeouts in 30.1 innings over 25 appearances • Notched a pair of saves on the year with a 2.08 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .215 batting average • After allowing two earned runs in the season opener at UNLV on Feb. 14, he didn’t give up an earned run in 17.2 innings over his next 13 appearances • Notched his first career save in a 4-3 win over Hawaii at the Houston College Classic • Also notched a save on March 22 against Michigan to complete a three-game sweep of the Wolverines • Matched a career high with five strikeouts in 2.2 innings of no-hit relief against Texas on March 28 • Four Husker pitchers combined for a 15-inning shutout against the Longhorns and the group earned Louisville Slugger National Player-of-the-Week honors.

2014: Howell developed into a reliable arm out of the bullpen for the Huskers in 2014 • Made 11 appearances and tossed 19.2 innings, while producing 18 strikeouts • Earned his first career win after throwing 3.0 innings of one-run relief in a 14-5 win over Kansas State, with the only run scoring on a wild pitch • Threw a career-high 3.1 shutout innings against Kansas State on April 9, allowing two hits and a walk, while striking out two • Had one of his best performances as a Husker in 2.0 innings of scoreless relief at The Citadel on March 1 with a career-best five strikeouts • Made his season debut against No. 2 Oregon State on Feb. 15 at the Husker Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

2013: Howell made 11 appearances out of the bullpen during his freshman season at Nebraska • Finished the year with an 0-1 record and a 10.12 ERA over 10.2 innings with nine strikeouts • Saw action in the postseason with 1.0 inning of work against Michigan in an 11-2 win during the first round of the Big Ten Tournament • Threw 1.1 innings of shutout relief at No. 8 Cal State Fullerton on March 20 • Gave up one hit and struck out two Titans • Made NU debut on Feb. 16 in relief at No. 22 Cal State Fullerton, threw a season-high 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.

Before Nebraska: A product of Fort Zumwalt West High School in O’Fallon, Mo., Howell played at the same high school as former Husker and 2011 fourth-round MLB Draft pick Cody Asche • Earned multiple honors in 2012, as he was a first-team Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4 selection, was named the Gateway South Conference Player of the Year and was a first-team St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro pick • Hit .483 in 2012 with nine doubles, one triple, one home run and a slugging percentage of .640 • Worked 13 innings on the mound with 21 strikeouts and five saves • Played in the third-annual PNC Bank High School Baseball Showcase in June of 2012 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis • Was selected to Missouri’s team as a pitcher to play against the top talent from Illinois • Threw one inning of scoreless relief in the game, as Missouri won, 14-1 • Chose Nebraska over Missouri, St. Louis, Southeast Missouri State and Murray State.
