2007 Outlook: After a season in the program, redshirt freshman John Lee is poised to make a contribution to the Husker lineup this spring • Made tremendous strides in his first year in the program, working on adding more leverage at the plate while taking advantage of his athleticism • Will look for playing time at either corner outfield position and has the potential to be a solid collegiate hitter • Taking advantage of early season opportunities will be the key to seeing more playing time • Is an accomplished student, carrying a 3.912 GPA in chemistry entering the spring semester.
2006: Redshirted during the 2006 season • Played for the Parkville Sluggers and Coach Andy Powers, batting .252 with a homer, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored in 34 contests.
Mason City High School: Lee was one of the top prospects in the state of Iowa playing for Coach Troy Rood at Mason City High School • Was a career .427 hitter (180-of-422) with 15 homers, 109 RBIs, 35 doubles, 19 triples and 159 runs scored in his three varsity seasons • Tabbed first-team all-state in each of his three varsity seasons, as he hit .444 with four homers, 28 RBIs, 14 doubles and 59 runs scored as a senior • Named a preseason high school All-American by Collegiate Baseball after hitting .421 with 57 RBIs and 59 runs scored during his junior season in helping Mason City qualify for the state tournament • Ranked 63rd nationally on Team One Baseball’s list of the top-100 high school outfielders and ranked in Baseball America’s list of the nation’s top 500 high school seniors in 2005 • Totaled nine varsity letters at MCHS (three in baseball and two each in football, basketball and track) • Carried a 4.00 GPA and was the recipient of the Lanny Peterson Award, which is given to the captain of the academic all-state team • Won the Wendy’s High School Heisman in 2004 • Was a member of the National Honor Society, while earning academic all-state accolades in both baseball and basketball • Drew interest from several schools, including Stanford and Northern Iowa, before choosing NU.
Personal: Born on Sept. 12, 1986, in Mason City, Iowa • Parents are Phil and Jane Lee • Has two brothers (Mark and Dan) • Majors in chemistry and has a 3.912 GPA.
