Cherry Creek High School: Sowers was a three-year starter for Coach Marc Johnson at Cherry Creek High School • Named a third-team High School All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association as a senior, helping Cherry Creek to a 19-2 record • Selected as the Colorado Player of the Year by both the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, Sowers hit .516 as a senior with 10 homers and 46 RBIs, leading Class 5A (largest) in both categories • Named All-Colorado shortstop after also scoring 33 runs, while 17 of his 32 hits went for extra bases, including four triples • Rated by Baseball America as the No. 2 high school prospect in Colorado for the 2006 MLB Draft • Selected for the state all-star game at Coors Field • Named first-team All-Colorado at second base as a junior, hitting .473 with 11 homers and 44 RBIs, while leading Cherry Creek to a 21-5 record and a state runner-up finish • Looked at Oklahoma, Baylor and Arizona before choosing NU.
