San Diego – The Nebraska volleyball team placed third at the Collegiate Nationals held at Mariner’s Point Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers earned a total of eight points in the team-format competition, and was one of only three schools to earn points from all four of its teams. The team of Brooke Delano, Kayla Banwarth and Jordan Wilberger brought home a title in the D Flight, going 4-0 on the afternoon and was one of only two teams that did not lose a match in tournament play. The Huskers defeated the Texas team of Alexandra Lewis and Elizabeth Graham, 21-12, 21-14 in the championship

All four Husker teams advanced to the semifinals in their respective flights in a tournament that featured six teams that were ranked at the end of the 2007 season.

Texas won the competition with 14 points, while San Diego earned runner-up honors with 11 points. In fact, the three teams in Nebraska’s pool occupied the top three spots in the six-team competition.

Extensive television coverage of the Collegiate Nationals kicks off with a special one-hour program airing on CBS Sports on Sunday, May 25 (1 PM). The show will launch eight consecutive days of Olympic-style programming on CBS College Sports Network, followed by sport specific shows.
