Huskers Close Regular Season in Ohio

The Nebraska women’s golf team closes its 2019 regular season by competing in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, April 13-14.
Ohio State plays host to a 12-team field with a strong Big Ten Conference flavor at the Scarlet Course. The tournament field features eight Big Ten teams, including No. 20 Michigan State, No. 30 Illinois, No. 53 Maryland, No. 56 Ohio State, No. 68 Michigan, No. 82 Rutgers, No. 88 Nebraska and No. 106 Minnesota, alongside No. 11 Kent State, No. 96 Toledo, No. 98 Seton Hall and the University of Indianapolis. The strong set of teams will take aim at the 6,319-yard, par-72 layout of the Scarlet Course.
Play in the 6-count-4 format begins Saturday with tee times 7:30 a.m. (CT) for the first and second rounds. The tournament moves to a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT) for Sunday’s final round.

Junior Kate Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minnesota) continues to lead the Huskers with a 73.18 stroke average. Smith will shoot for her 20th career top-25 individual finish, including her sixth this season. Smith owns four top-10 showings so far in 2018-19 and 13 in her career.
Sophomore Noor Ahmed (Folsom, California), who owns Nebraska’s No. 3 stroke average on the season at 75.82, earned the No. 2 qualifying spot for the Huskers in Ohio. 
True freshman Megan Whittaker (Elkhorn, Nebraska) earned the first lineup spot of her collegiate career and will be playing out of the No. 3 position in the six-player Husker lineup. Whittaker has competed in six tournaments this season as an individual outside the Nebraska lineup. She owns a 76.56 stroke average this spring with all nine rounds at 78 or better.
