Huskers Sign Strong International Golfer

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln - Nebraska women's golf coach Robin Krapfl announced the signing of Vanessa Bouvet (pronounced BOO-vay) to a National Letter of Intent on Friday, Nov. 10. Bouvet, who currently makes her home in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, will add a truly international flavor to the Husker program.

Bouvet, who has shown great length off the tee, has claimed top-five finishes in major amateur tournaments from Belgium to Malaysia to Singapore in the past two years and is hoping to find more success and a new home at Nebraska.

"Vanessa is a power player with the length to be comfortable on any golf course," Krapfl said. "We also expect her to be an outstanding student and teammate who will have a chance to come in and compete for a spot in our lineup as a freshman. Her experience in growing up and playing golf around the world will be an added benefit to our entire team."

Bouvet will graduate from Jerudong International School in Brunei in 2018. In the summer of 2017, Bouvet was the runner-up at the 43rd Royal Selangor Golf Club Ladies Amateur Open with a three-round score of 218. She added a runner-up finish at the 29th KGM Open in Sarawak, Malaysia.

In 2016, Bouvet finished third at the Singapore Island Invitational, while also taking fifth at the Belgium International Open. She added a fifth-place finish at the Malaysia Amateur Open in 2017.

She has lived and competed internationally in Syria, Venezuela, New Zealand and in the United States, making her home as a youngster in Houston, Texas. She has also competed in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Belgium, and in the World Amateur Golf Rankings her home country is listed as France.

The daughter of Eric and Patricia Bouvet, Vanessa was born in Damas, Syria. She chose Nebraska over Kentucky and Missouri State.

"I chose Nebraska because of the great coaching staff, the facilities and the atmosphere," Bouvet said. "I felt that Coach Krapfl was very supportive and gave me the confidence that I would be a good fit for the team. I visited the student-athlete center and the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course and it felt like home."
