Senior (1978-79)
A four-year contributor, Laurel Smedberg (Cochennet) was one of Nebraska's first letterwinners in women's golf. As a freshman in 1976, Smedberg helped the Huskers win the inaugural Big Eight Conference team title, while earning a trip to the 1976 AIAW National Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. She also competed for the Huskers at the Big Eight Championships in 1978.

Competing as Laurel Cochennet as a senior, the Suisun, Calif., native played in seven rounds and managed a 92.86 stroke average. Through her final three seasons, she played 20 rounds for the Huskers and finished with a 94.05 stroke average. Complete statistics are not available from her freshman year in 1975-76.

She opened her senior season with an 89 at the Omaha Invitational, and followed with a 193 in two rounds at the Iowa State Invite. After producing a 182 that included a career-best 88 in the second round at the AIAW Region VI Championships, she did not appear again in Nebraska's lineup until the season-ending Minnesota Invitational, where she closed at 186.

Junior (1977-78)
Smedberg earned her third varsity letter for the Cornhuskers by competing in all 11 rounds during the season. She ranked fifth on the team with a 95.45 stroke average. Smedberg opened the season with a 275 that included a first-round 88 at the Susie Maxwell Berning All-College Classic in Oklahoma City. She added NU's No. 4 score at the AIAW Region VI Championships in Minneapolis, and competed at the Illini Spring Invitational.

She was Nebraska's No. 5 finisher at the Big Eight Championships on Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln, posting a 183 that included a final-round 88. She closed the year as the Huskers' fourth finisher at the Minnesota Invitational.

Sophomore (1976-77)
In her second season at Nebraska, Smedberg competed in just two of Nebraska's seven rounds on the season. She saw her only action of the year at the first-ever Susie Maxwell Berning All-College Classic in Oklahoma City, where she produced rounds of 93 and 88 to finish at 181.

Freshman (1975-76)
Smedberg was a freshman on Nebraska's first-ever varsity women's golf team under Coach Larry Romjue in 1975-76. Smedberg helped Nebraska capture the first-ever Big Eight championship in women's golf, which was held in Columbia, Mo.

The Huskers also finished fourth at the AIAW Region VI Tournament and qualified for the AIAW National Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. At nationals, Smedberg helped the Huskers to a 22nd-place finish with a two-round total of 683.
