Urbana, Ill.-- The Nebraska men's tennis team got a doubles win from Tomislav Antoljak and Rok Krizaj, but the Huskers suffered a 4-0 setback at No. 27 Illinois on Sunday.
The Huskers slipped to 4-15 overall and 0-7 in Big Ten Conference play.
Antoljak and Krizaj defeated the Fighting Illini pair of Noe Khlif and Pablo Landa, 6-2, in No. 3 doubles to provide a highlight for the Huskers against Illinois. However, a 6-0 loss for the tandem of David Samardzija and Micah Klousia to the Illini duo of Zeke Clark and Aleks Kovacevic at the No. 2 spot left Nebraska's chance to claim the doubles point up to Toby Boyer and Dylan Bednarczyk at No. 1. Boyer and Bednarczyk fought a tremendous battle against the Illini's Vuk Budic and Aleks Vukic, but dropped a 7-6 (7-3) decision to give Illinois the team point.
Illinois built more momentum in singles, as the nationally ranked Vukic defeated Boyer, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At the No. 6 position, Krizaj lost to Landa, 6-2, 6-2, before Illinois secured the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win for Khlif over Antoljak at No. 3. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished and Illinois won 4-0.
Nebraska returns to road action at Indiana on April 14 at 3 p.m., before facing Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., on April 16 at 11 a.m.
