Kansas City, Mo. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team recorded eight more wins Sunday to close out competition at the Missouri Invitational at the Plaza Tennis Center.
The Big Red dominated doubles play during morning matches against the Missouri Tigers, winning all four doubles matches. Later Sunday, Nebraska went 4-3 against the Memphis Tigers in singles action.
Senior pair Mary Hanna and Lisa Andersson combined to pull out a 7-6 (2) victory at the No. 2 doubles spot over Missouri’s Bea Machado-Santos and Mackenzy Middlebrooks. Andersson then picked up a second win in the evening during singles matches with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win against Josephine Cao of Memphis.
Also pocketing two wins each for NU was Katerina Matysova, Jeannie Lozowski and Vasanti Shinde to bring Nebraska's Sunday win total to eight.
After partnering with Lozowski for a 6-1 doubles win over Missouri duo Kadi Fauble and Claire Sullivan, Matysova earned a No. 3 singles win over Marta Morga of Memphis. The two battled through three sets, the last being a tiebreaker, before Matysova pulled ahead to win, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (8). Lozowski picked up her singles win against Hanna Sohn of Memphis at the No. 2 spot with a three-set match ending in a 6-1, 0-6, 1-0 (10) victory.
Shinde notched a 6-3 doubles win with M’Balia Bangoura before rounding out the evening at the No. 7 singles spot with a quick 6-2, 6-2 victory against Clara Kuehn of Memphis.
Nebraskas is off until returning to competition Oct. 13-17 at the ITA Central Regional in Minneapolis.
