Huskers Collect 28 Wins at ITA Regionals
Minneapolis - The Nebraska women's tennis team concluded it's fall campaign with a 4-5 finish on the last day of the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. on Sunday. The Huskers took home their last victory in consolations doubles and three additonal wins in extra matches during the day.
The last team representing the Big Red in the consolation doubles bracket, Claie Reifeis and Vasanti Shinde posed a clean 8-0 win over Merzbacher and Safdar of Minnesota in the quarterfinals match. The duo then fell to Nikolaeva and Toran-Ribes of Kansas, 8-2, later that evening.
Both Reifies and Shinde also picked up wins for Nebraska during extra singles matches Sunday afternoon. Freshman Reifeis swung to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Arkansas' O'Brein. This marked Reifeis' fourth singles win of the tournament. Shinde notched a quick 6-2, 6-2 final score over Quammen of Arkansas State.
Also a freshman for the Huskers, Jeannie Lozowski pulled a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Arkansas State's Roberts. Lozowski's total singles record advanced to three after securing this win.
With the conclusion of Sunday's matches the Nebraska women's tennis team cloeses it's fall 2016 campaign.
