No. 39 Nebraska Hosts Houston, Illinois State

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln - The No. 39 Nebraska women's tennis team will welcome the Houston Cougars and the Illinois State Redbirds to the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center for a pair of duals this weekend. Admission is free into both matches, and the first 100 fans to Saturday's match against Houston will receive free donuts and coffee.

The undefeated Huskers (12-0 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) open the weekend on Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m. against Houston. The all-time series between the two schools is tied 1-1, but the programs have not played each other this century. Houston enters the weekend 4-6 on the season. The Cougars are also scheduled to face off with Kansas State on Friday, March 3, before visiting the Huskers on Saturday.

Illinois State visits the Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday, March 5, to battle the Big Red at 11 a.m. The Redbirds carry a 5-5 overall record after two recent wins against Chicago State (7-0) and Eastern Illinois (4-3). Illinois State will take on Houston Saturday at the Dillon Tennis Center before facing Nebraska on Sunday. The Huskers lead the all-time series over Illinois State, 6-0.

Nebraska recently broke into ITA national ranking, earning a No. 39 ranking on Tuesday following an undefeated start to its spring season and an upset of then-35th-ranked Wichita State last Sunday. The Huskers are ranked for the first time since earning a No. 69 ranking last spring. Nebraska is one of six Big Ten Conference schools appearing in the ITA poll. Ohio State is the highest ranked Big Ten team at No. 2, followed by No. 4 Michigan, No. 38 Northwestern, No. 39 Nebraska, No. 43 Maryland and No. 47 Iowa.
