Kenosha, Wis. – The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team went 4-1 in five sets of five-game Baker matches with a pinfall of 5,348, good for first place after the first day of competition at the Warhawk Invitational at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha, Wis.
No. 5 McKendree is second with a pinfall of 5,266, while third-ranked Arkansas State sits in third place with a pinfall of 5,187.
The Huskers fired a pinfall over 1,000 in each game of the day, knocking off a pair of ranked teams. NU won its first four matches of the day, before suffering its only loss in the final match.
Nebraska began the day by taking down Maryville, 1,031-776, before defeating No. 21 Valparaiso, 1,002-810.
In a matchup of top-five teams, the Big Red prevailed over fourth-ranked Vanderbilt, 1,094-939, before using their highest scoring effort of the day in a win over Lincoln (Mo.), 1,165-729.
In the final match of the day, Arkansas State defeated the Huskers in a high-scoring contest, 1,113-1,056.
The Huskers will return to action Saturday morning with five traditional matches set to begin at 9:35 a.m. (CT). NU is set to face No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 25 Elmhurst, second-ranked Stephen F. Austin and No. 5 McKendree with a bye in the third match. Friday and Saturday’s combined results will determine the seeding for Sunday’s bracket-play championship tournament, which begins at 8 a.m. (CT).
