Two Huskers Qualify for Intercollegiate Singles Championships

Addison, Ill. - Nebraska bowlers Kelly Belzeski and Alexandra Mosquera qualified for the for the 2017 Intercollegiate Singles Championships after finishing in the top-nine at the Intercollegiate Singles Sectional Qualifier in Addison, Ill., on Friday.

Belzeski, a junior from Schererville, Ind., won the 196-player sectional with a six-game total pinfall of 1,284, while Mosquera, a senior from Armenia, Colombia, finished seventh overall with a pinfall of 1,219. 

NU bowlers Briana Zabierek, Kelly Huddleston and Gazmine Mason also competed at the Addison sectional. Three other sectionals were held Friday, in Allentown, Pa., Smyrna, Tenn. and Dallas, Texas, with the top four women in each sectional guaranteed to advance. The eight additional women who advanced were determined based on the number of entries at each sectional.

The 2017 Intercollegiate Singles Championships will have 24 women competing for individual national titles April 18-19 and 22 at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge, La. The finals will be taped for broadcast and televised on CBS Sports Network in May.
