Outlook: After much improvement over the summer, Jorge Abos Sanchez will play either at the No. 1 or No. 2 position in 2000-01. According to Coach Kerry McDermott, Sanchez is a strong leader who speaks with his racquet.
As a Junior (Spring 2000): Competing as the regular No. 1 singles player after junior Lance Mills and senior Juan Hamdan were sidelined with injuries, Abos Sanchez recorded a 5-10 record. However, at his usual Nos. 2-3 spot, he was undefeated at 5-0 bringing his record to an even 10-10. Two victories in the fall seaosn brought his overall record to 10-12. This impressive showing earned him an 11th-place spot in the Region V singles rankings. He also recorded the best doubles mark on the team at 11-3 with partners Hamdan and sophomore Fungai Tongoona. (Fall 1999) Abos Sanchez posted the best fall mark of any Husker with a 9-4 record. He teamed with Lance Mills to go 2-1 in doubles competition at the ITA Regional Tournament.
As a Sophomore (1998-99): Abos Sanchez compiled the best No. 3 singles mark in the Big 12 Conference with a team-best 17-4 record. He won 16 of his 22 matches in straight sets and lost only once to a regional opponent in 1999. Abos Sanchez teamed with sophomore Lance Mills to record a 9-10 mark at No. 2 singles. Abos Sanchez alse excelled in the classroom, earning honourable-mention academic All Big 12 honours. Prior to the spring season, he posted the best fall mark of any Husker with a 9-4 record. Again, he teamed with Mills to go 2-1 in doubles competition at the ITA Regional Tournament.
As a Freshman (1997-98): Abos Sanchez played No. 2-3 singles, recording a 12-11 record. Abos Sanchez also teamed with Andrew Wiese at No. 2 doubles, going 5-3 and posting a 9-11 overall doubles mark. He went 7-4 during the fall season.
High School: Abos Sanchez is a 1997 graduate of Chaparral High School in Spain. He did not play tennis for his high school but was a top-ranked junior player in Spain.
