Outlook: Jacek Wolicki (pronounced YA-sek Woe-LICK-ee) is the Huskers? leader in 2003 after being named team captain in the fall. A confident player and hard worker on the court and in the weight room, Wolicki?s experience should help him to continue to play at a high level while likely competing at the No. 1 singles slot. After a strong 2002 campaign in which he ranked 20th in the region, Wolicki will use his big forehand and athleticism to try to move into the top eight in the region this year while striving to reach the NCAA Tournament.

Summer 2002: Wolicki had a great summer on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association circuit. He won one tournament title in the West Circuit and made it to the quarterfinals in three other tournaments. Along with fellow Husker Jeff Nabity, Wolicki won two doubles tournaments and made it to the semifinals in the season?s last competition.

As a Junior (2001-02): Wolicki finished with a 6-13 record in singles play and a 2-19 mark in doubles action during the dual meet season despite battling back problems throughout the year. He was 0-1 in the season-opening invitational at Rice in the spring. Wolicki spent most of the season playing at the No. 2 spot in singles action during dual meets, where he tallied a 5-12 record to finish the year ranked 20th in the region. During the season, Wolicki faced six ranked opponents in singles play but did not record a victory in any of those matches. In doubles play, Wolicki teamed up with Joel Reckewey at the No. 1 position for the majority of the season and recorded a 2-17 mark at that spot while facing three ranked tandems. Off the court, Wolicki was named to the Big 12 Commissioner?s Honor Roll for Fall 2001 and Spring 2002.

As a Redshirt Sophomore (2000-01): Wolicki redshirted during the 2000-01 after transferring to Nebraska from Indiana State.

As a Sophomore (1999-2000): Did not compete in collegiate tennis.

As a Freshman (1998-99): Wolicki played in the No. 6 and 7 singles positions at Indiana State during his first collegiate season. Wolicki posted a 30-7 overall record and won the Missouri Valley Conference title at No. 7 singles while helping the Sycamores to a 23-4 team record. He finished the season with a 9-3 mark in doubles play, including 3-0 marks with two different partners. Wolicki ranked 27th nationally in singles at the end of the season.

High School: Wolicki is a 1998 graduate of St. Francis Xavier High School and trained at the University of Alberta Tennis Center for seven years under Coach Russ Sluchinski. At one point, he ranked No. 1 in Alberta in boys Under 18, and was also ranked 11th in Canada in boys Under 18.

Personal: The son of Dana and Bogdan Wolicki, Jacek was born in Slupca, Poland, on July 24, 1979. He has one sister, Eva. Jacek is majoring in business management at Nebraska.
