Eleven Huskers Earn Academic All-Big Ten Recognition
The Nebraska soccer team produced 11 Academic All-Big Ten selections for 2016 when the conference announced its list of honorees on Wednesday.
Senior Caroline Flynn earned a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten Team for the fourth time. Flynn, who achieved first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America status on Nov. 22, holds a 3.99 grade-point average in communication studies. The Lincoln, Neb., native started 20 games this season, earning one goal and one assist.
Seniors Courtney Claassen and Sydney Miramontez each garnered recognition from the conference for the third time. Claassen and Miramontez, who are each majoring in advertising and public relations, each started all 22 games during the season and amassed over 2,000 minutes.
Second-time honorees for the Huskers are Haley Hanson, Amanda Hilton and Alli Peterson. Hanson, an Overland Park, Kan., native is majoring in communication studies. Hilton, a West Chicago, Ill., native, is majoring in elementary and special education K-6. Peterson, who hails from Iowa City, Iowa, is an advertising and public relations major.
Caroline Buelt, Emilee Cincotta, Lindsay Hargreaves, Amanda McClanahan and Emily O’Neal each made their first appearance on the Academic All-Big Ten Team.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
