Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska soccer team played its first of five games this spring, and managed a 2-0 victory over South Dakota State at the Hawks Championship Center on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half despite the Huskers having several attack opportunities. NU scored early in the second half off a corner kick, and made it 2-0 when Elyse Huber slipped past a Jackrabbit defender for a goal. The Huskers used multiple goalkeepers during the game, giving experience to Mayte Corral and Lauren Smith in the second half.
Nebraska previously faced the Jackrabbits in its second-to-last game of the 2016 campaign when the two teams tied their NCAA Tournament First Round game before the Huskers advanced with a 3-0 edge in the penalty kick shootout.
The Huskers will host their second of three home spring games on Sunday, March 5 against Iowa State. The game, scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT), will be played at the Hawks Championship Center.
