Honors & Awards

  • Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Academic Honor Roll (2007)

2007 Outlook
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Dennis Bergland was impressive on the Husker scout team a year ago, and will look to push for playing time in 2007. A walk-on athlete from Plattsmouth High School, Bergland is expected to line up at guard this fall, where he joins an impressive collection of talent that includes juniors Andy Christensen, Mike Huff and Matt Slauson, who all have extensive starting experience.

2006 (Redshirt)
Bergland sat out his first season in the Nebraska program as a redshirt.

Before Nebraska (Plattsmouth HS)
Bergland was a multi-sport standout for Plattsmouth High School. On the gridiron, he was a three-year letterwinner for Head Coach Bob Fuller, and earned Class B all-state honors from the Omaha World-Herald as an offensive lineman. He also starred on defense as a nose tackle for the Blue Devils, helping Plattsmouth to a state playoff appearance in his senior season. Bergland was a standout for the South squad in the 2006 Nebraska Shrine Bowl, helping his team to a 35-14 win.

A standout wrestler for Plattsmouth, Bergland helped the Blue Devils to a 2006 state runner-up finish with a second-place showing at 275 pounds. He also finished third at 275 pounds as a junior and was a Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association second-team academic all-state selection. Bergland lettered four years in powerlifting and owns two state titles and four school records. He also qualified for state in the shot put and discus as a senior.

Personal
Dennis is the son of Debby Howell and Steve Bergland and the stepson of Tana Bergland and Thomas Howell. He was born Dec. 13, 1987, and is a business administration major at Nebraska and was named to the Big 12 Spring Honor Roll.
