2009 Game by Game (updated 12-14-09)
Florida Atlantic: Did not play following back injury that forced him to miss much of fall camp. Arkansas State: Made first appearance of season... had one catch for 27 yards down to the ASU 2 to set up third-quarter TD. Virginia Tech: Started game in two-tight end formation, but did not record a catch. Louisiana-Lafayette: Caught one pass for 34 yards to set up NU's first points of game. Missouri: Did not record a reception. Texas Tech: Started third game of season in two tight end formation, but did not record a catch. Iowa State: Started game but did not record a catch. Baylor: Did not record a catch. Oklahoma: Started career-high fifth game of season but did not record a catch. Kansas: Started sixth game of season... added third catch of season for two yards. Kansas State: Had third catch of the season with an 8-yard reception. Colorado: Had one catch for seven yards... third straight game with a reception. Texas: Played but did not have a reception.

2009 Outlook
Junior Dreu Young is a key component in a talented group of Nebraska tight ends that makes the position one of the deepest for the 2009 Huskers. Young and fellow junior Mike McNeill formed a 1-2 punch at tight end in 2008, and the duo is expected to be the leaders of the group again this fall. The 6-4, 250-pound Young has the speed to stretch the field, and the experience of the tight ends should take some pressure off a young Nebraska receiving corps.

Young played in all 13 games in 2008 and finished with nine catches. A walk-on performer from Cozad High School, Young saw his first significant action in 2007.

2008 (Sophomore)
Young played a key role in Nebraska ranking among the top 20 nationally in total offense, scoring offense and passing offense. Nebraska threw for at least 200 yards in every game, and Young’s improved blocking skills helped NU average better than 200 rushing yards per game over the second half of the year.

Young saw action in every game and made four starts when NU opened in multiple tight-end sets. Young caught nine balls for 140 yards and one touchdown. His average of 15.6 yards per catch was the best among all receivers with at least two receptions. He opened the season with a career-long 55-yard catch against Western Michigan. He caught a career-best two passes each against Texas Tech and Kansas State, and scored a nine-yard touchdown against the Red Raiders to tie the score at 24-24 in the fourth quarter. Young added single receptions against Virginia Tech, Missouri, Baylor and Oklahoma.

2007 (Redshirt Freshman)
Young earned his way into the tight end rotation behind three seniors, and played in eight games. He had a 14-yard catch against Nevada.

2006 (Redshirt)
Young sat out the season as a redshirt and worked with the scout team offense.

Before Nebraska (Cozad HS)
Young was a key part of two state playoff qualifying teams for Coach Ron Bubak at Cozad High School. He starred at wide receiver and safety for the Haymakers, earning honorable-mention Class C-1 all-state honors as a senior. Young was a multi-sport standout, also earning honorable-mention all-state accolades in basketball, and lettered in track, baseball, golf and wrestling during high school. He was also the student body president and a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal
Dreu is the son of Marcus and Mindy Young, and was born on April 23, 1988. He is majoring in business administration and has volunteered with several Husker team hospital visits. He was named to the 2009 Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Academic Honor Roll.
