John Klem was a valuable contributor in the receiving corps throughout his career and continued to be a strong perimeter blocker for the Huskers' running game.

Klem is one of several Huskers who will play in the bowl game as graduates. Klem earned his bachelor's degree in finance last week. He was named to the first-team Academic All-Big 12 team this fall.

2002: Klem played in all 13 games with five starts this fall. He began the season as an alternate at split end, but moved to wingback midway through the season. He shared second-team duties at the spot with fellow senior Ben Cornelsen. Klem did not have any receptions, but played a key role as a blocker for the Huskers' Big 12-leading rushing attack.

2001: Klem played in every game backing up wingbacks John Gibson and Troy Hassebroek until Klem suffered a torn right ACL on Nov. 10. He missed the last two games of the season, including the Rose Bowl. Klem caught one pass for nine yards vs. Rice. He was also one of NU's best blocking receivers, helping NU lead the nation in rushing.

2000: A reserve split end, Klem played in five games for the Huskers, including the 2000 Alamo Bowl vs. Northwestern, but did not have a reception.

1999: Klem saw action in four games in 1999, but did not have a catch.

1998: A walk-on athlete, Klem redshirted his first year at NU.

At East HS: A Lincoln native, Klem played wide receiver, free safety and outside linebacker for Lincoln East High School. As a senior, Klem had 46 receptions for 905 yards and made 100 tackles on the defensive side of the ball. He earned second-team super-state honors and was named to the all-city team in football. He earned all-state honors in soccer, leading East to two state championships.

Personal: The son of Ron and Marilyn Klem, John was born on May 27, 1980. He majors in finance and owns a 3.189 cumulative grade-point average and has been named to four Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member. Klem will earn his degree in December 2002.
