  • 2001 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll

Paul Kastl (pronounced Castle) served as the No. 3 fullback behind Judd Davies and Steve Kriewald in 2001 and 2002.  In his career, Kastl played in 30 games and had 14 carries for 58 yards.

2002: Kastl played in 13 games, including the 2002 Independence Bowl against Mississippi, but had no statistics.

2001: Backing up Davies and Kriewald in 10 games, Kastl had eight carries for 32 yards. He did not lose a yard on the season, averaging 4.0 yards per carry and 3.2 yards per game. His season best was a career-best-tying eight-yard gain vs. Texas Tech, when he had a season-high three carries for 13 yards and the lone catch of his career, a 19-yard reception. Kastl also had 1-7 vs. Rice; 1-5 vs. OU and 3-7 at Kansas. He served on the PAT and field goal units and saw action in the 2002 Rose Bowl but did not have any carries.

2000: As NU's No. 3 fullback, behind senior starter Willie Miller and Davies, Kastl played in six games. He rushed six times for 26 yards with a long of eight vs. Baylor, when he also had a career-best 22 yards on a career-high four carries. In the Alamo Bowl, Kastl participated on special teams, but did not have a carry.

1999: Kastl played in one game, but did not have any carries.

1998: A walk-on athlete, Kastl redshirted in 1998.

At Pius X HS: Kastl earned Class B all-state honors as a running back, rushing for 1,900 yards, and super-state honors as a senior linebacker. He was also the state wrestling champion at 189 pounds in 1998.

Personal: Born on July 7, 1979, Paul is the son of Ted and Kathy Kastl. He majors in sociology and is on schedule to earn his degree in May 2003. He is a two-year member of the Unity Council.
