  • First-Team Academic All-Big 12 (2001, 2002)
  • 2002 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team
  • Four-Time Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll

Senior Joe Chrisman served as Nebraska's first-team holder for place-kicking duties and is the No. 3 quarterback. He saw action in two games as a quarterback and has played in 10 games at the position in his career. The former walk-on has nine career rushes for 15 yards and has attempted four passes. Chrisman also continued to excel in the classroom, earning first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors for the second consecutive year.

2002: Chrisman served as Nebraska's top holder for the second consecutive season. Husker place-kickers connected on 13-of-17 field goals this fall and made all 45 PAT attempts. Chrisman appeared as a quarterback against Utah State and Kansas, but did not have any stats.

2001: Chrisman saw action in every game as a holder, and in two games as a quarterback, rushing the ball once vs. Rice (minus three) and once at Missouri (seven yards). He did not attempt any passes, but had one failed PAT rush attempt after a bad snap in Nebraska's first game against TCU. Chrisman held for extra-point kicks in the Rose Bowl.

2000: Chrisman played in four games in 2000, vs. San Jose State, Texas Tech, Baylor and Kansas. He did not complete a pass or have an attempt, but rushed five times for eight yards, including a career-best eight-yard gain at Texas Tech. He had a career-high four attempts (for three yards gained) vs. Baylor. Late in the game, Chrisman had one carry for no yards in the 2000 Alamo Bowl vs. Northwestern.

1999: Chrisman played against Iowa State and Texas A&M in 1999. He had two carries for three yards vs. the Cyclones, with a long run of three yards, and attempted four passes, all incomplete. He played most of the second half against the Cyclones as Jeff Perino, Eric Crouch's backup, was injured.

1998: A walk-on, Chrisman redshirted in 1998.

At Longmont HS: Chrisman played quarterback and running back for Coach Gordon Cramer at Longmont High School. He earned honorable-mention all-state honors, as he led his team to the state semifinals in 1997. He totaled more than 3,500 career passing yards and more than 1,500 rushing yards, earning all-county and all-city honors. He also earned academic all-state honors. He earned three football letters, one in basketball and three in baseball.

Personal: The son of Dave and Laurie Chrisman, Joe was born on March 24, 1979. He majors in business administration and is on track to graduate in May 2003, with a 3.2 cumulative GPA. Chrisman is a two-year member of the Unity Council and volunteered with the Sidney Tour of Excellence; the City of Hope Hospital visitation; the Team Spirit Hospital visitations; National American Education Week; FCA Weekend of Champions and as a speaker at a Cub Scout Banquet. Chrisman was named to the 2002 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team. The Citizenship team is named in honor of Berringer, a former Husker quarterback, who was extremely active in the community before he died in a plane crash in 1996.
