2006 Outlook
Sophomore quarterback Harrison Beck will head into fall camp in the middle of a tight battle to serve as Zac Taylor’s backup at the quarterback spot. Beck and fellow sophomore Joe Ganz emerged from spring practice as the leading candidates to serve as the top understudy to Taylor, who is entering his senior year in 2006.

Beck’s progress during spring practice was limited because of a shoulder injury that required him to sit out much of the final two weeks. The 6-2, 215-pound Beck should be at full speed for the start of fall camp.

A highly regarded prep prospect from Florida, Beck has good mobility and a strong arm and has shown the needed poise to be a successful quarterback. Beck saw limited action as a backup to Taylor in 2005, playing in two games and keying a game-winning drive against Kansas State.

Beck is also off to a strong start in the classroom at Nebraska. A communication studies major, Beck carries a 3.457 GPA through two semesters and is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

2005 (Freshman)
Beck moved up to the backup quarterback position midway through the season, but did not see action until the home finale against the Wildcats. Beck was called upon after Taylor was knocked out of the K-State contest with a concussion. Beck threw an interception that led to the Wildcats’ go-ahead field goal, but he responded in the game’s waning moments. He connected with redshirt freshman Nate Swift on a 21-yard strike to help put Nebraska in position for Jordan Congdon’s game-winning 40-yard field goal with 1:05 to play.

Beck played in the final quarter at Colorado, and directed NU to a field goal to account for the final 30-3 margin. He finished the regular season 1-of-10 passing.

Before Nebraska (Countryside HS)
Beck was a prep standout at Countryside High School in Clearwater, Fla., where he produced outstanding passing numbers for three seasons. As a senior, Beck connected on 65 percent of his pass attempts for 1,695 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping Coach John Davis’ team to a second straight district championship. Beck also posted outstanding numbers as a sophomore and junior, throwing for approximately 900 and 2,300 yards, respectively. Beck connected on better than 70 percent of his passes as a junior and threw for 21 touchdowns, while leading his team to the third round of the state playoffs. He passed for 10 scores as a sophomore.

Beck was a consensus choice as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. Rivals.com listed him as the nation’s No. 3 pro-style quarterback and the 20th-best prospect in the state of Florida. Recruiting analyst Tom Lemming ranked Beck as the nation’s No. 58 player overall and the No. 4 quarterback in the country. Beck was a participant in the 2004 EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp, the Nebraska Elite Quarterback Academy and participated in the CaliFlorida Bowl at the Orange Bowl. Beck was one of the first players to commit to Nebraska, pledging his services to the Huskers in June of 2004. He chose NU after receiving offers from numerous schools, including homestate schools Florida, Florida State and Miami.

Personal
Harrison’s mother is Evelyn Bothwell, and his stepfather is Dave Bothwell. He was born on Sept. 1, 1987. Beck is majoring in communication studies.
