2005 (Junior)
Shanle appeared in all 12 games as a reserve safety and special teams contributor as a junior and finished with 10 tackles. He posted five tackles in NU’s first three games with two against Maine, an assisted tackle against Wake Forest and two stops against Pitt. He added an assisted tackle against Texas Tech, before contributing a solo stop in NU wins over Kansas State and Colorado to close the regular season. He capped the year with two solo stops and outstanding punt coverage in the win over Michigan in the Alamo Bowl.

His performance on Nebraska’s punt coverage team helped the Huskers rank second nationally in net punting. He also assisted on a much-improved punt return team that finished 17th nationally in return average.

2004 (Sophomore)
Shanle played in all 11 games as a reserve in the secondary, and as a member of most of Nebraska's special teams units. He finished with 19 total tackles, including 16 solo stops. He also had two tackles for loss, and recorded a 10-yard sack against Kansas State. Shanle played the majority of the game against the Wildcats with Josh Bullocks out with an injury, and responded with a career-high seven tackles.

Shanle also recovered a pair of fumbles (Missouri, Kansas State) and blocked a punt in NU's 24-3 victory over Missouri. Shanle burst through the line on a second-quarter punt attempt for a block that was scooped up for a score by teammate Adam Ickes. Later in the game, Ickes caused a fumble on a Tiger punt and Shanle recovered deep in MU territory. The Huskers converted to take a comfortable 17-3 lead.

2003 (Redshirt Freshman)
Shanle did not play in the opener, but was on kick coverage for the rest of the year. He finished with nine tackles, including six solo stops. He had three tackles each against Texas A&M and Iowa State, including a 14-yard sack vs. the Cyclones.

2002 (Redshirt)
A scholarship recruit, Shanle redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (St. Edward HS)
Shanle earned first-team All-Class D honors for Coach Rich Lemburg as a senior for St. Edward, which finished with a 9-2 record. Shanle made 90 tackles and picked off seven passes from his safety position on defense. He also played quarterback and threw for more than 1,400 yards, while rushing for 835 more. Shanle was also a standout on the track for St. Edward, placing second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes as a junior and won the 100 meters as a senior in a time of 10.87 seconds. Shanle picked the Huskers over a scholarship offer from Iowa State.

Personal
Andrew is the son of Roger and Pam Shanle, and was born on March 9, 1983. He is married to the former Sarah Hertzler, a native of Lincoln. Shanle completed his undergraduate work in May with a 3.457 cumulative grade-point average. Shanle has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll six times and has volunteered his time with the Husker E-mail Literacy Program and on local hospital visits. Andrew's older brother, Scott, is a former Husker currently playing with the Dallas Cowboys.
