2009 Outlook Senior Wes Cammack has supplied depth in the Nebraska receiving corps each of the past three seasons, while also playing a key role on the Husker special teams units. This spring the Nebraska native will try to make a push for playing time in a receiving corps that lost two of the top five receivers in school history in Todd Peterson and Nate Swift.
A walk-on performer, Cammack has played in 26 games over the past three seasons, primarily on special teams. He has one career catch and was one of Nebraska’s leading special teams tacklers in 2008. Cammack is also one of Nebraska’s top scholar-athletes. He is on track to earn his degree in agricultural engineering in May of 2010 and carries a 3.888 cumulative grade-point average. A UNL Regents Scholar, Cammack is a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection.
2008 (Junior) Cammack played in all 13 games, and had a five-yard catch in the 38-7 win over New Mexico State. While he saw limited time as a receiver, Cammack was a special teams standout, primarily on kickoff coverage. He had nine tackles, including eight solo stops. He had solo tackles in five games, before making a career-high two tackles against both Colorado and Clemson.
2007 (Sophomore) Cammack saw action in 11 of 12 games, primarily on special teams. He made three tackles on Nebraska’s coverage units, with single tackles against Wake Forest, Ball State and Kansas State. He also saw limited action as a receiver.
2006 (Redshirt Freshman) Cammack provided depth in the Husker receiving corps and on the special teams units. He appeared in games against Colorado and Auburn.
2005 (Redshirt) Cammack redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.
Before Nebraska (Tri County HS) Cammack was a two-way standout at Tri County High School. He rushed for 1,887 yards in his career, including 1,245 as a senior, and scored 21 total touchdowns. He also intercepted 13 passes and had 104 solo tackles on defense. Cammack was a first-team all-state pick by the Omaha World-Herald and earned all-district accolades his last three years. He excelled in basketball and track, lettering four times each. Cammack ran to four gold medals at the state track meet and averaged 20.8 ppg as a senior on the hardwood.
Personal Wes is the son of Troy and Mary Cammack, and was born on Sept. 24, 1986. Cammack has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll each of his first eight semesters on campus. He is also active in the community, volunteering on local hospital visits, as well as with the Dads of Kids with Disabilities program and at the Village Manor Retirement center.
