Steve Volin was a two-year reserve for NU, playing backup guard to Aaron Taylor in 1995. In 1994, Volin backed up starter Joel Wilks and saw limited action in 1992 and 1993.

Senior (1995)

A member of Nebraska's back-to-back national championship teams in 1994 and 1995, Volin was a contributor on an offensive line that claimed a 12th NCAA rushing title with an impressive 399.8 yards per game on the ground. A two-year letterman, Volin was a standout in the classroom for the Huskers, earning second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. A CoSIDA All-District VII selection, Volin was also an academic All-Big Eight pick in 1995.

The 6-2, 290-pounder was one of four Huskers to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 1995, joining first-team center Aaron Graham, fellow offensive guard Steve Ott, and fullback Brian Schuster. Volin, Graham and Ott were the only seniors on NU's two-deep offensive line in 1995.

Volin appeared in 10 games as a senior, backing up All-Big Eight left guard Aaron Taylor. Volin and the rest of the Husker offensive line did not allow a sack the entire 1995 season and the offensive line was flagged for only six penalties throughout the year.

Junior (1994)

Volin appeared in four games as Joel Wilks' backup at left guard. Volin earned his first varsity letter and helped the Huskers roll to an 11th NCAA rushing title by amassing 340 yards per game on the ground. Nebraska also captured its first national title since 1971.

Sophomore (1993)

Volin played in four games as a reserve guard but did not letter.

Freshman (1992)

As a reserve on the offensive line, Volin saw limited action.

Redshirt (1991)

A walk-on, Volin redshirted in his first year at Nebraska.

Wahoo High School

Playing for Coach Dick Tingelhoff at Wahoo High School, Volin was an all-state offensive lineman as named by the Lincoln Journal-Star and also played nose guard for Wahoo. He played in the 1991 Nebraska Shrine Game. An academic all-state student-athlete, Volin graduated at the top of his class of 50. He was also a starter for Wahoo's record-breaking basketball squad. The Warriors won four consecutive Class B state titles, reeling off a state-record 90 consecutive victories during his career.


The son of Jerald and Marilyn Volin, Steve was born on Jan. 13, 1973. A biological sciences major, Volin graduated with one of the highest grade-point averages on the Nebraska team, carrying better than a 3.8 GPA. He earned his bachelor's degree in December of 1995. Volin also served as a volunteer with the Coach Osborne Teammates Program and was a Mortar Board member at Nebraska.
