2004 Outlook
Sophomore quarterback Joe Dailey enters the fall as the leading contender to direct Coach Bill Callahan's West Coast Offense. Dailey spent spring practice familiarizing himself with the offense and enters fall camp atop the depth chart at quarterback.

Dailey came to Nebraska as a dual-threat quarterback with excellent throwing and running ability and outstanding leadership skills. Those talents will serve him well in the West Coast Offense. Dailey has good arm strength and during spring ball, showed the ability to be a consistent and accurate passer. His athleticism will also make him an excellent scrambler when he is pushed out of the pocket.

The 6-0, 205-pounder capped spring practice with an impressive performance in the Red-White Spring Game. Dailey completed 29-of-49 pass attempts for 241 yards and four touchdowns, all Nebraska spring game records. His 29 completions were spread among 11 receivers, and he directed the Red squad to a 35-6 victory.

Dailey spent his true freshman campaign in 2003 as senior Jammal Lord's backup at quarterback. Dailey played in eight games as the Huskers' No. 2 signal caller with his most extensive work against Utah State, Troy State and Iowa State. Through the air, Dailey completed 9-of-14 passes for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with two interceptions. He rushed for 122 yards on 33 carries.

The Jersey City, N.J., native has distinguished himself off the field in his short time at Nebraska. Dailey was named to the 2004 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team for his community outreach work and was named to the 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll.

2003 (Freshman)
Dailey finished the season with 122 rushing yards on 33 carries, and completed 9-of-14 passes for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with two interceptions. He threw a 21-yard scoring strike to Matt Herian against Troy State and connected with Isaiah Fluellen for a 29-yard touchdown against Texas A&M.

Dailey did not play in Nebraska's season opener with Oklahoma State, but saw extensive action against Utah State. He rushed for 47 yards on nine carries against the Aggies, including a season-long 23-yard run, and completed 4-of-5 passes for 47 yards. He rushed for 32 yards against Troy State, and also passed for 25 yards in the game, including his scoring strike to Herian. He added the touchdown pass to Fluellen in NU's 48-12 win over Texas A&M, then played the final 2 1/2 quarters of the win over Iowa State. He established season highs with 15 rushing attempts for 55 yards against the Cyclones, while completing 2-of-4 passes.

Before Nebraska (St. Peter's Prep)
Dailey was one of the nation's top run-pass quarterbacks in 2003. He completed 54 percent (74-of-136) of his passes as a senior for 1,378 yards and 19 touchdowns. Dailey added 783 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns and seven two-point conversions on the ground. Dailey’s leadership on offense helped St. Peter’s Prep, coached by Rich Hansen, to a 10-1 record and an appearance in the state semifinals.

Dailey posted big numbers as a junior, passing for better than 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 700 yards. Dailey led St. Peter’s Prep to a 36-6 record and four HCIAA titles in his time as the starting quarterback. He set school records for most touchdown passes, most touchdown runs, passing attempts, passing completions and rushing yards by a quarterback.

Dailey earned first-team all-area and all-county honors and was a first-team all-state Parochial school selection. He was named to the New Jersey Super 100 Team and selected to the MSG All-Heisman Team. Dailey was the Hudson Reporter Player of the Year. He was an All-East Region selection by PrepStar ranked as the No. 13 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com. Dailey chose Nebraska over Syracuse and received offers from Rutgers, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Dailey and fellow 2003 signee Wali Muhammad (Bloomfield) were Nebraska's first scholarship recruits from New Jersey since Jammal Lord joined the NU program in 1999.

Personal
Dailey is the son of Doreen Dailey and was born on Nov. 19, 1983. He has not declared a major, but finished his first year at Nebraska with a 3.167 grade-point average. Dailey earned a spot on the 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll. Dailey has also been active in the community since he arrived in Lincoln. He was a speaker during American Education Week, and has volunteered with the Scouts Under Lights Program and Friendship Home. For his outreach work, Dailey was one of 13 players named to the 2004 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.
