Junior (2001)
All-American left guard Toniu Fonoti (pronounced Tone-You Foe-no-TEE) left a year early for the NFL as one of the most dominant linemen in school history.

In 2001, he led an O-line that powered Nebraska to an 11-2 record and its second straight NCAA rushing title with 314.7 yards per game. He did not allow a sack or receive a penalty in 2001.

The first-team All-Big 12 pick eclipsed 1997 Outland Trophy winner Aaron Taylor's school record for all-time pancakes (377 in 35 games, 1995-97) with 379 career pancakes.

Fonoti set the NU single-season mark with 201 pancakes as a junior in 2001, including a single-game record 32 pancakes against Texas Tech. He was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy, joining John Henderson (DT, Tennessee) and winner Bryant McKinnie (OT, Miami).

Fonoti was one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award.

Sophomore (2000)
In his first year as Nebraska's starting left guard, Fonoti led the Huskers to a No. 1 national ranking in rushing offense (349.3 ypg) and top-six rankings in both total offense (459.0 ypg), sixth) and scoring offense (41.5 ppg, fourth).

Behind Fonoti and an offensive line that also featured All-Americans Dominic Raiola and Russ Hochstein, NU averaged more than 6.0 yards per career, an average that led NCAA Division I-A. The Huskers also ranked second nationally with 45 rushing touchdowns.

Fonoti recorded double figures in pancakes in all but one game on his way to then-single-season records of 155 total pancakes and 14.1 per game. He notched a season-high 21 pancakes in Nebraska's Alamo Bowl win over Northwestern, as the Huskers rushed for an Alamo Bowl record 476 yards.

Freshman (1999)
Fonoti became only the third Husker to earn playing time on the offensive line as a true freshman, joining former All-Americans Jake Young (1986) and Will Shields (1989). Fonoti played in all 13 games and was a member of the Huskers' first-team PAT and field goal units. He totaled 23 pancakes, helping NU to a Big 12 rushing title by averaging 265.9 yards per game.

At Kahuku High School
Fonoti graduated from Kahuku High School and played his senior year for Coach Siuaki Livai, leading his team to the state runner-up finish and a No. 18 national ranking. Fonoti earned first-team all-state honors from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and the Honolulu Advertiser as an offensive lineman and was ranked No. 19 among offensive linemen in the West Region.

Fonoti also lettered in basketball four years and twice in track and field, winning the conference championship in the discus with a throw of 169-10.

He attended El Camino High School in Oceanside, Calif., his junior year, earning honorable-mention all-state honors playing for Coach Herb Meyer in 1997.

Personal
Toniuolevaiavea Satele "Toniu" Fonoti was born on Nov. 26, 1981, in American Samoa to Fonoti Satele-Fonoti and Emaline Fonoti. He majored in communication studies at Nebraska and was a member of the 2001 Unity Council. He also volunteered at the Village Manor Nursing Home.
