2007 (Senior)
Offensive tackle Carl Nicks made stready progress throughout his brief Nebraska career, capped by earning postseason honors in 2007. The 6-5, 330-pound Nicks was one of Nebraska’s top offensive line performers in 2007, holding down the left tackle spot and assisting Nebraska to its top offensive output in 10 seasons.

Nicks played in all 12 games with 11 starts at left tackle in 2007. His play allowed Nebraska to post the top three passing days in school history and rank No. 7 nationally in passing offense at 323.8 yards per game. The Huskers also averaged better than 468 yards of total offense per game to finish ninth in the country in that category.

Nicks and the offensive line paved the way for Nebraska junior I-back Marlon Lucky to gain more than 1,000 yards rushing and post the top season all-purpose yardage total for a Husker since 1997. Nicks’ play at his left tackle spot earned him second-team All-Big 12 honors from the Big 12 Coaches and honorable-mention recognition by the Associated Press.

A two-year letterman at Nebraska, Nicks appeared in 23 games in his NU career with 13 starts.

Nicks played in all four non-conference games, but did not see action in three of the next four contests as he battled injuries. He then appeared in each of the final six games.

Nicks was one of eight junior college recruits in the class of 2006. As a sophomore, Nicks earned 2005 California Community College Football Coaches Association first-team All-America honors and Region II first-team All-California honors as an offensive lineman playing for Coach Larry Souza. Nicks also was named a third-team JC-Gridwire/JCFootball.com All-American, as he helped lead Hartnell to a 7-4 record and a conference championship. Nicks received a four-star rating from Scout.com and Rivals.com, which listed him as the No. 35 junior college prospect in the country.

After graduating from North Salinas High School in 2003, Nicks attended New Mexico State, playing for then-head coach Tony Samuel, a former Husker player and assistant coach. He started his career as a defensive tackle and switched to offense, before transferring back to Hartnell Junior College. Nicks chose NU over California, Washington, Wisconsin and Louisville. Nicks also threw shot put and discus for Hartnell.

Personal
Nicks was born on March 5, 1983, and is the son of Carl Nicks, Sr. He and his wife, Bridget, have a three-year-old daughter Serena. Nicks is majoring in sociology.
