A Doak Walker Award semifinalist, Dan Alexander displayed his strength and agility as a senior in 2000.  One of six Nebraska captains, Alexander produced seven 100-yard rushing games in 2000, including a regular-season career-best 208 yards on 17 carries against San Jose State in the season opener.  Alexander took 20 carries for 240 yards in the 2000 Alamo Bowl en route to earning MVP honors.  He became Nebraska's first 1,000-yard rusher under Coach Frank Solich with his 130-yard performance against Kansas State.  Alexander was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the NFL draft as the 192nd overall pick.

A first-team All-Big 12 Conference I-back, Alexander finished his career ranked 10th on Nebraska's all-time rushing list with 2,456 yards.

Alexander's athletic talent is mesmerizing.  He owns the fourth-best Performance Index all time at Nebraska with 3,144 points.  He owns a 1.62 electronic 10-yard dash time and a 4.53 in the 40.  He was a two-time finalist for the Nebraska Lifter of the Year Award and was the first freshman to win the award in 1997.

Alexander started all 12 games, with 11 starts at I-back and one at fullback (at Kansas State) in 2000 and ranked 21st nationally with 104.9 yards per game.  With 1,154 yards rushing, Alexander average an impressive 6.3 yards per carry.  He scored 20 rushing touchdowns and had 13 100-yard rushing games in his career, including seven in 2000.  In 1999, Alexander took over the Husker starting I-back job in the third game.  He started 10 of the last 11 games to finish second on the team with 865 rushing yards.
