James Sherman was a two-year starter at offensive guard and was a steady force on the offensive line.  Sherman was a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 pick, a second-team All-America selection and earned second-team GTE/CoSIDA All-District VII honors.  Sherman graduated on Dec. 18, 1999, with a degree in criminal justice.

Sherman played every game at left guard in 1999 and was fourth on the team with 96 pancakes, averaging 8.0 per game.  Sherman had double-figure pancakes in three games, including a career-best 14 vs. Kansas State when the team had a season-best 73.  He also had double-figure pancakes vs. California (10) and Texas (13) when he led the team.
