  • 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll

2004 Outlook
Sophomore Mark Brungardt was a special teams standout in 2003, and will look to make an impact in the Husker linebacking corps this fall. Brungardt enters fall practice listed second behind fifth-year senior Chad Sievers at Will linebacker.

Brungardt is a second-generation Husker as his father, Tim, played fullback at Nebraska from 1981 to 1983.

2003 (Redshirt Freshman)
Brungardt played in all 13 games, primarily on special teams. He finished with seven tackles, (five solo) with two each against Utah State and Penn State and single tackles against Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Kansas and Michigan State. He backed up T.J. Hollowell at Buck linebacker.

2002 (Redshirt)
A walk-on, Brungardt redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Norfolk Catholic HS)
Brungardt was a standout performer at Norfolk Catholic for Coach Jeff Bellar. During Brungardt's four seasons, the Knights qualified for the state playoffs each year, winning Class C-1 state titles in 1998 and 1999, and reaching the quarterfinals in 2000 and 2001.

Brungardt played quarterback and linebacker and was a two-time all-state selection. He totaled 2,500 rushing yards, 1,000 passing yards and accounted for 35 touchdowns in his career on offense and made 250 career tackles. He also lettered four times each in basketball and track

Personal
Brungardt is the son of Tim and Julie Brungardt and was born on Oct. 6, 1983. He is majoring in business administration and was named to the 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
