  • Two-Time Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Academic Honor Roll (2004, 2005)

2005 (Senior)
Wide receiver Matt Schroeder was a key part of Nebraska’s West Coast Offense during his final two seasons, providing depth in the receiving corps. The 6-4, 215-pound Schroeder played in 15 games over his final two seasons and provided a rangy target in the Nebraska passing game.

Schroeder was a reserve in the Nebraska receiving corps in 2005, helping the Huskers set a school-record for passing yards in a season. Schroeder played in games against Maine, Wake Forest, Baylor, Oklahoma, Colorado and Michigan, but did not have a reception. He also logged time on special teams.

A two-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, Schroeder earned his bachelor's degree in May of 2006, after majoring in management at Nebraska. Among Schroeder's teammates at Laurel-Concord was fellow 2005 Husker senior Seppo Evwaraye.

2004 (Junior)
Schroeder played in nine games as a reserve wide receiver and on Nebraska's kickoff return team in 2004. Schroeder did not have a reception, but played in every game except NU's contests against Southern Miss and Pittsburgh.

2003 (Sophomore)
Schroeder played in Nebraska's win over Texas A&M, but did not have a catch.

2002 (Redshirt Freshman)
Schroeder played against Kansas, but did not have a reception.

2001 (Redshirt)
A walk-on, Schroeder redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Laurel-Concord HS)
Schroeder was a standout for Coach Michael Halley at Laurel-Concord. Schroeder played receiver and safety and caught 39 passes, scored 10 touchdowns and had four interceptions as a senior, helping the Bears to a state title in 2000, after a state playoff appearance in 1999. For his efforts, Schroeder earned all-state honors during his senior year. Schroeder also lettered four times in basketball and three times in track. He earned first-team all-state honors as a senior on the hardwood, helping Laurel-Concord to a state basketball title.

Personal
The son of George and Kris Schroeder, Matt earned his bachelor's degree in May of 2006, after majoring in management at Nebraska. He was named to the 2004 and 2005 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Rolls. He was born on Oct. 18, 1982. Matt's sister, Emily was a member of the Nebraska volleyball team in 2003 and 2004. Among Schroeder's teammates at Laurel-Concord was Nebraska offensive lineman Seppo Evwaraye, whose legal guardians Jim and Carla Erwin, are Schroeder's second cousins. Matt's grandfather, Pete Retzlaff, played tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1956 to 1966, and was a five-time Pro Bowl pick.
