    (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007)
  • Four-Time Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007)

2007 (Senior)
Andy Sand served in a valuable role as a reserve tight end during his first four seasons in the Nebraska program. However, a move to fullback late in his junior season allowed Sand to make an impact in the Husker offense as a senior.

Sand, who earned a letter for the Huskers as a senior, played in all 12 games in 2007, including three starts at fullback. In addition to serving as a valuable blocker for Nebraska’s record-setting passing offense, Sand caught three passes for 31 yards out of the backfield. He had a 15-yard catch in the opener against Nevada, then nabbed two receptions for 16 yards at Texas.

Sand also had an assisted tackle against Iowa State. Sand did not see game action prior to 2007. He was a reserve tight end in 2004 and 2005, before switching positions during the 2006 season. A walk-on, Sand redshirted in his first season with the Huskers in 2003.

Sand was strong in the classroom, earning first-team academic All-Big 12 honors in 2007, while being named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll eight times during his career. A business administration major, he was one of 20 Huskers who graduated in December of 2007.

Career
Sand has yet to see game action for the Huskers. He was a reserve tight end in 2004 and 2005, before switching to fullback during the 2006 season. A walk-on, Sand redshirted in his first season with the Huskers in 2003.

Before Nebraska (Lincoln Southeast HS)
Sand helped Lincoln Southeast to a state title as a tight end and defensive end in 2002. He played alongside fellow Husker Bo Ruud. A two-way player, Sand earned Lincoln Journal Star Super-State honors as a defensive end his senior year. Sand added 15 receptions for 450 yards for Coach Chuck Mizerski. Sand also lettered two seasons in basketball and two times in track and field, and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal
The son of Ben and Nancy Sand, Andy was born on June 21, 1984. A first-team academic All-Big 12 selection, Sand was an eight-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in December of 2007. He volunteered his time as a speaker during School is Cool Week and also visited local hospitals.
