2004 (Senior)
Chad Sievers followed up two seasons as Barrett Ruud’s top backup at middle linebacker by claiming the starting WILL linebacker role in 2004. He earned his first career Blackshirt after winning the starting spot at the conclusion of spring camp.

Sievers ranked fifth on the NU defense with a career-high 54 tackles, and also set personal bests with five quarterback hurries and three tackles for loss while replacing former Husker Demorrio Williams in 2004. Sievers provided a major run-stopping presence for a defense that rated No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference in fewest rushing yards allowed per game at 104.0. The Husker defense limited opponents to fewer than 100 yards rushing in six of 11 games. He matched a career high by registering nine tackles three times during his senior campaign, including NU’s 59-27 win against Baylor, in which Sievers made five solo stops.

The Valley, Neb., native recovered from off-season knee surgery in time to participate in 2003 spring ball and play all 13 games as a junior backup linebacker. He finished with 14 tackles, including seven unassisted stops. His most extensive time at linebacker came late in the Huskers' 38-14 win at Southern Miss, when he posted a season-high eight tackles. Sievers made two tackles at Missouri and played on NU's coverage units.

He played in nine game and finished an injury-shortened 2002 season with 37 tackles, including two tackles for loss. After missing the season opener with Arizona State, Sievers made six tackles, including a tackle for loss, in his Husker debut against Troy State. He sat out the Utah State game, but had five or more tackles in the next three games, including a career-high nine stops at Iowa State. Sievers suffered a season-ending knee injury early in the Kansas game, but continued in the contest and made six tackles and recovered a fumble. In addition to backing up Ruud at middle linebacker, he was a strong performer on Nebraska's coverage units.

Sievers sat out the 2001 season after transferring from New Mexico State. He paid his own way to the Rose Bowl, but was not eligible to suit up or travel with the team.

Sievers was also one of Nebraska’s all-time great scholar-athletes. He became NU’s 218th academic All-American last December when he was named to the University Division First-Team defense by ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA. Sievers graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in business administration in December of 2004.

2003 (Junior)

Before Nebraska (New Mexico State/Valley HS)
Sievers played at New Mexico State as a true freshman in 2000 for Head Coach Tony Samuel, a former Nebraska assistant. Sievers appeared in 10 games and made four tackles for the 3-8 Aggies.

Sievers graduated from Valley High School in 1999. He was asked to walk on at NU, but accepted a scholarship to New Mexico State after earning defensive MVP honors in the 2000 Shrine Bowl. Playing for Coach George Purnell, Sievers recorded 128 tackles and two interceptions as an All-Omaha area defensive back in 1999. With a perfect 4.0 GPA in high school, Sievers graduated first in his class.

Personal
The son of Scott and Karen Sievers, Chad was born on Feb. 9, 1982. In addition to excelling in the classroom, Sievers was a regular volunteer in the community. He has been a volunteer youth mentor, a behavioral skills program volunteer, a speaker during School is Cool Week, and also a volunteer with Special Olympics, Teammates, and Halloween Fun Night. Sievers and his brother, Clayton, were one of four brother tandems on the 2004 Nebraska roster. Chad was married this summer to the former Jessie Runty, a letterwinner for the women's basketball team in 2002-03. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in December of 2004 with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
