2014 (Outlook)
The only three-time letterwinner on the Nebraska women’s cross country team in 2014, Sarah Larson is expected to miss the entire 2014 season with a leg injury.

A team captain for the Huskers as a junior in 2013, the senior out of Lincoln Northeast High School was a top-three runner for Nebraska at every meet except the NCAA Midwest Regional last season. She was NU’s No. 1 finisher at the prestigious Roy Griak Invite.

A strong leader on the course, in the classroom and in the community, Larson is a two-time winner of the Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award and a three-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

2013 (Junior)
Larson finished among Nebraska’s top three runners at each of the first five meets of the 2013 campaign, before closing the year as NU’s No. 6 finisher at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Ames, Iowa on Nov. 15.

A 2013 team captain, Larson opened the season by finishing 13th overall as NU’s No. 3 runner at the Augustana Twilight. She was NU’s No. 2 finisher at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park on Sept. 21, posting a time of 22:49.40 to finish 12th overall.

She led the Huskers and took 143rd overall (23:22) at the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis on Sept. 28, before finishing as NU’s No. 3 runner at the Tim Young Invitational in Vermillion, S.D., on Oct. 19. She was NU’s No. 3 runner again at the Big Ten Championships, finishing 80th overall in a time of 22:55.3 at West Lafayette, Ind., on Nov. 3. She closed the year with a 156th-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa, Nov. 15.

2012 (Sophomore)
Larson became a leader for Nebraska in her second season of cross country, regularly placing in NU’s top three and earning Nebraska’s Most Valuable Runner award. She led the Huskers at the 2012 Big Ten Championships in East Lansing, Mich., completing the course in 22:20 to finish 75th overall.

Larson was NU’s top finisher at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invite, placing 13th overall (22:26.08). She finished 46th (22:23.70) to lead the Huskers at the KU Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kan.

2011 (Freshman)
Larson competed in three meets as a true freshman on her way to her first cross country letter. Although Larson did not compete in cross country in high school, her experience as a distance runner in track and field helped ease the transition to the longer distances of collegiate cross country.

Larson opened her freshman campaign with a top-10 finish at the UNO/Creighton Invitational. She placed 10th (20:14.72) in Omaha and was one of six NU runners who finished in the top 10, helping the Huskers win the team title. After the strong performance in her first cross country meet, Larson placed 41st (23:06.4) at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational. She added a 23rd-place effort (19:00.0) at the SDSU Classic in Brookings, S.D.

Competing in her first postseason as a Husker, Larson placed 96th at the Big Ten Championships. Closing out her freshman campaign, Larson finished 137th (23:40.91) at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in DeKalb, Ill.

High School (Lincoln Northeast)
Larson did not compete in cross country during her high school career, but she was a multi-sport standout at Lincoln Northeast.

Larson captured the Nebraska Class A state 3,200-meter championship as a junior in 2010. Larson claimed her first state title in a personal-best time of 11:23.67. She added a third-place showing in the 1,600 with a personal-best time of 5:20.42 for Coach John Snoozy.

She added a fifth-place finish in the 3,200 (11:36.001) as a senior. She also ran the opening leg of the Rockets’ sixth-place 3,200-meter relay team.

She made her first appearance at the state track and field meet as a freshman, when she ran a leg on the Rockets’ sixth-place 3,200-meter relay team.

Larson earned her first individual medal at the Class A state track meet as a sophomore in 2009, as she finished seventh in the 3,200 (11:59.32). She also competed in the 1,600.

Larson was an accomplished softball player at Lincoln Northeast. The Rockets’ ace in the circle, she also played shortstop and third base when she was not pitching. She was Northeast’s top pitcher and hitter during her junior season in 2009-10, and was a Class A honorable-mention all-state selection as a senior in 2010-11.

Sarah is the daughter of Mike and Traci Larson. Sarah was born Feb. 28, 1993. She is majoring in business administration at Nebraska and earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2011 and 2012 and the spring of 2014. She claimed a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in both 2013 and 2014. She was a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2014 and 2015.
