Matt Gilbert opened up the season at the Augustana Twilight placing fifth with a time of 19:19.10, helping the Huskers take home the team title...finished 179th at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational (26:05.6)...came in at 214th at the ISU Pre-National Invitational (26:10.4)...posted a 92nd-place finish at the Big Ten Championships (26:47.1)...ran in at 129th at the NCAA Midwest Regional (32:45.1)...was a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for a third year in a row...earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both semesters...claimed his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2017.
Gilbert competed as one of Nebraska's top-six runners throughout the season...finished 73rd at the Big Ten Championships with a time of 25:03.2...placed 101st at the NCAA Midwest Regional (32:05.9)...opened the season with an eighth-place finish at the Augustana Twilight (19:44.37)...finished 16th at the Woody Greeno Nebraska Invitational (26:00.9) and 18th at the Kansas Rim Rock Classic (24:46.7)...also finished 27th at the Bradley Classic (23:35.8)...earned academic All-Big Ten honors for the second time in his career, as well as a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team...finished on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll both semesters.
Gilbert redshirted the 2014 season while expanding his training base as a middle distance runner for the Husker track and field team...was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll both semesters and was a Tom Osborne Citizenship Team member.
Gilbert was a regular among Nebraska's top-seven runners...opened the season with a fifth-place finish at the Augustana Twilight with a time of 19:21.18...placed 14th in 26:12.40 at the Woody Greeno Nebraska Invitational...closed the season strong as NU's No. 5 finisher and in eighth-place at the Tim Young Invitational...finished seventh among the Huskers at the Big Ten Championships, taking 80th overall (26:22.8)...was NU's No. 5 finisher at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 32:13.1 to finish 87th overall...captured academic All-Big Ten honors for the first time while adding spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll both semesters.
Gilbert placed 10th at the UNO/Creighton Classic with a time of 28:29.30...earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
Gilbert was a standout at Fenton High School in Michigan, where he earned all-state honors...was a four-time first-team all-conference selection...placed 19th at the state championships as a senior.
Gilbert was born July 9, 1993...son of Chris Gilbert...majored in actuarial science...earned bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2017.
