Huskers Rank No. 9 in Preseason Poll

By NU Athletic Communications

The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team ranks No. 9 in the 2017 Preseason Coaches Poll.

In 2016, NU finished seventh nationally – the program’s best finish since 1999. Individually, four NU gymnasts earned All-America honors, including Austin Epperson and Anton Stephenson who both return for the Huskers in 2017.  Epperson is joined by Coleman Tokar as the only two seniors on the Husker squad this season. They will be looked to for leadership, as the pair hopes to take Nebraska back to the NCAA Championships in 2017.

As the defending national champions, Oklahoma holds the top spot, followed by last year’s runner-up, Stanford. Ohio State is the highest-ranked Big Ten team at third. The Buckeyes are followed by Minnesota (fourth), Illinois (fifth), Penn State (sixth) and Iowa (seventh). California ranks eighth and Michigan ranks 10th.

The Huskers kick off the 2017 season on Jan. 14 at the West Point Open in West Point, N.Y. Competition is set to begin at 6 p.m.
