Stephenson Takes First on Vault at USA Championships

After being named Big Ten Vault Champion in the 2018 season, Husker men’s gymnast Anton Stephenson proved he can compete alongside the nation’s top gymnasts. Stephenson went on to claim first place on vault at the USA Championships, posting a score of 14.80 on Day 1 and 14.75 on Day 2 with a combined score of 29.550.

“Becoming a US national champion is a title I have been dreaming of earning for my entire gymnastics career,” Stephenson said. “Being my first Senior Championships, I have learned a lot and I am excited to take my experience back to the gym with me.”

Stephenson competed all-around in the USA Championships. He tied for 17th on floor (27.200), placed 16th on pommel horse (26.050), placed 30th on rings (23.750), and tied for 9th on parallel bars (26.950).

Former Husker, Kyle King also represented the Huskers at the two-day competition. King brought home 28th on pommel horse with a 21.650 two-day total and 32nd on high bar with a 12.150 two-day total.
