Junior gymnast Danielle Breen earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 honors, as CoSIDA released its at-large teams on Thursday.
The Ames, Iowa, native has been a standout in both the gym and the classroom throughout her career. She earned second-team All-America honors on balance beam in 2017 after she tied for sixth on the event with a score of 9.900 at the NCAA Semifinal. She has also been a second-team All-Big Ten performer in each of the last two seasons. The accounting major holds a 4.0 GPA and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. In 2017, Breen was one of just 12 winter Academic All-Big Ten honorees across eight sports and the only women's gymnast in the conference to sport a perfect GPA.
Breen is a five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and she won a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award in 2016.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month. Breen joins student-athletes from the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming on the District 7 team.
Breen was one of three Big Ten gymnasts honored on Thursday, joining Michigan's Nicole Artz (District 5) and Minnesota's Bailey Abernathy (District 6).
