2006-07 Season Outlook

Senior Lauren Bailey has had one of the most successful careers in the 31-year history of Nebraska swimming and diving. She hopes to add her best season to close out her career in 2006-07. An honorable-mention All-America honoree, Bailey is a two-time school record holder in the 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle and has goals to end her career with a third straight trip to the NCAA Championships.

2005-06 (Junior)

Bailey became Nebraska’s first All-American since 2001, when she earned honorable-mention All-America accolades with a ninth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2006 NCAA Championships. Her time of 16:16.06 set a school record and it came just two weeks after resetting her school record with an official 1,000-yard freestyle split (9:51.91) during her winning 1,650-freestyle race at the Big 12 Championships, the second Big 12 title of her career. Also at the conference meet, Bailey was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best 4:46.96, the second-best time in school history, and third in the 400-yard individual medley. She won a team-high 18 races on the season and also competed in the 500-free and 400-IM at the NCAA Championships, the third straight year that she qualified for the national championships in three events.

2004-05 (Sophomore)

Bailey continued her career as one of Nebraska's most successful swimmers in recent history with another trip to the NCAA Championships where she finished as high as 27th in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Bailey finished runner-up in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle at the Big 12 Championships, and was invited to compete at nationals in those events, as well as the 400-yard IM after setting provisional marks in all three events during the season. The San Mateo, Calif., native delivered one of the most memorable moments of the year when she set a Devaney Center Natatorium record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.84) against Truman State on Nov. 15. Bailey captured a total of 12 individual wins during the season, and moved into the No. 2 spot on NU's all-time list in the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle.

2003-04 (Freshman)

Bailey was one Nebraska's top performers as a freshman and was the first Husker to win a Big 12 title since 2001 and went on to compete at the NCAA Championships. She made the provisional cut for the NCAA meet by winning the 400-yard IM at the conference championships (4:17.57). Bailey also swam her best time in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Big 12 Championships (16:42.72) on her way to a runner-up finish. She added a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best 4:50.85 at the conference meet. Bailey gained valuable experience at the NCAA Championships by finishing 33rd in the 1,500-meter freestyle. She added a 38th-place finish in the 400 IM and a 57th-place showing in the 400 freestyle.
